Privacy Policy
Last updated: 6 August 2026
Natal Twins ("we", "us", "the platform") calculates Vedic birth charts and matches users who share similar planetary placements, so they can chat about it. This policy is governed by the laws of India, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 ("DPDP Act"), the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011. It explains what personal data we collect, why, and the rights you have over it as a Data Principal under the DPDP Act.
1. What we collect
When you create an account, we collect:
- Account details: name, email address, and password (stored as a one-way hash — we never store or can see your plain-text password).
- Birth details: date of birth, time of birth, birth city, and timezone offset. These are the inputs to your chart calculation and to the matching that finds your "natal twins". Under the 2011 Rules, date of birth is treated as Sensitive Personal Data and handled with the additional care described in this policy.
- Optional profile data: gender, and an avatar image if you upload one.
- Content you create: chat messages you send to matches, and any saved charts you generate for family or friends.
- Technical data: your IP address and basic device/browser information, collected automatically for analytics, security, and fraud/abuse detection.
We do not use third-party ad trackers. Your session is authenticated with a token stored in your browser's local storage, not a tracking cookie.
2. Why we process it (lawful basis)
Under the DPDP Act, we process your personal data on the basis of your consent — given when you check the consent box at signup — for the following specified purposes:
- To calculate your birth chart (planetary positions, houses, dashas, yogas, and related Vedic astrology outputs).
- To find and rank other users whose charts closely match yours, and to power the Kundali (marriage) compatibility calculator.
- To operate chat between matched users, including delivering messages and read receipts.
- To analyse aggregate usage (via IP address and device data) so we can improve the service and keep it running reliably.
- To keep the service secure — detecting abuse, blocked users, and fraudulent accounts.
Your birth details are never shown to other users directly. Matches see chart-derived facts (e.g. your Moon sign, ascendant) and whatever you choose to say in chat — not your raw date, time, or place of birth. You may withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account (Section 6); withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before that point.
3. Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not have any third-party ad-tech or marketing partners. Your data may be processed by the infrastructure providers we use to run the service (hosting and database providers), strictly to operate the app on our behalf, and never for their own use. We disclose data only where required by Indian law — for example, to a government or law-enforcement authority under a lawful order.
4. Chart sharing in chat
When you share a chart inside a chat conversation, only the planetary longitudes needed to redraw the chart are sent — not your date, time, or place of birth, and not the name of whoever the chart belongs to (e.g. a family member's chart). The recipient's browser redraws the chart locally from those numbers.
5. Data retention
We retain your personal data only for as long as your account is active and needed for the purposes in Section 2, or as required to meet a legal obligation under Indian law. IP/device data collected for analytics is retained only as long as reasonably needed for that purpose and is then deleted or aggregated.
6. Your right to erasure and correction
You can access or correct your personal data at any time from your dashboard. You can permanently delete your account and all associated personal data (birth details, saved charts, messages you've sent) at any time from your dashboard's account settings — this is immediate and irreversible.
7. Security
Passwords are hashed, never stored in plain text. Access to your account requires a signed session token. In line with the reasonable security practices required under the 2011 Rules, we apply technical and organisational measures to protect your data against unauthorised access, alteration, or disclosure. As with any online service, no method of transmission or storage can be guaranteed 100% secure.
8. Children's privacy
Natal Twins includes a chat-based matching feature between adult strangers and is not intended for children. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18.
9. Your rights as a Data Principal
Under the DPDP Act, you have the right to:
- Obtain a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how it is being processed.
- Correct, complete, or update your personal data.
- Erase your personal data, including via account deletion in your dashboard.
- Withdraw your consent at any time, as easily as it was given.
- Register a grievance with us, and if unresolved, with the Data Protection Board of India.
- Nominate another individual to exercise these rights on your behalf in the event of death or incapacity.
To exercise any of these rights, contact our Grievance Officer using the details in Section 11.
10. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of Natal Twins after a change means you accept the updated policy.
11. Grievance Officer & contact
In accordance with the Information Technology Act, 2000 and rules made thereunder, the Grievance Officer for Natal Twins can be reached at grievance@nataltwins.com.
